My Little Ponies and Friends (U.S.) (A-P)
Year 10 (1991)

Year 10 was My Little Pony's last year to be released in the U. S.  It would also be a year of some of the wildest My Little Pony designs:  mermaids, ponies with zebra-type stripes, ponies covered in a flowers and lace design, talking ponies, and several sets with wild tropical colors.  The brilliant creations of Year 10 were bold to say the least; however, they lacked many of the accessory extras of years previous.  Many ponies came only with a single comb and very few came with accessories other than this.  There are exceptions to this rule however, like the Birthday Pony and Bridal Beauty.  Many of these sets were not sold in the U. K.

Also unlike all other years of the My Little Pony line, many Year 10 sets came in sets of 3.  Many came in sets of six until Year 8 then sets of four became popular.

Birthday Pony (for My Little Pony's Tenth
Anniversary)

The Birthday Pony was issued to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the My Little Pony line.  She is definitely one of a kind of all the U. S. ponies.  She has Twice as Fancy symbol on her body.  She was not the only pony in Year 10 to have symbols covering her body, the Flower Fantasy Ponies also have twice as fancy symbols.

Birthday Pony
(earth pony) is white with pink hair and a blue and pink tinsel forelock.  Her body is covered in ribbons, stars, and hearts in several colors: purple, blue, pink.  Her tail has streamers embedded into it and she has blue eyes.   She has no formal name and is in Cupcake's pose.  She is sometimes nicknamed the Anniversary Pony or  Birthday Pony (only name referenced on her box).

She came with a hot pink boxed gift that opened to reveal a bracelet inside.  She also came with a yellow shooting star comb.

Pictured above is the gift box and the pendant that came with the Birthday Pony.  This picture is copywrited by Andrea, founder of the Accessory Addicts, and photo is used with her permission.

Bridal Beauty (tall, slender body)

Click here to see Mint in Package Photographs of the Bridal Beauty and for a complete accessory listing.

She is a little larger than the average pony, with a body similar to a sister pony. Her pose is unique; only a few ponies have this mold, the Princess Ponies and Colorswirl Ponies (below).  Her back, left hoof has an odd cut (close up shown below).
She was in the exact same mold as the Pony Bride, which came out in Year 8.  The Pony Bride is basically identical (same colors, same body, same tinsel, same pose, and same eyes) to the Bridal Beauty except for her symbol of two purple doves.

Bridal Beauty
(earth pony) is white with white hair with white tinsel.  Her symbol isbridalbeauty2.jpg (6552 bytes) a pink heart with a rose bouquet draped over it. She has no formal name. She has purple eyes.
She came with a white lace veil, a pink flower bouquet (which could also be a hair barrette), and diamond ring.

Colorswirl Ponies (tall, slender earth ponies with large zebra stripes)

Click here to see Mint in Package Photographs of the Colorswirl Ponies and for a complete accessory listing.

These are a little larger than the average pony, with a body similar to a sister pony. Their pose is unique; only a few ponies have this mold, the other one is the Bridal Beauty and the Princess Ponies. The cut of the back hoof has an odd cut (close up shown below).  Also, these are in the same mold as the Pony Bride, which came out in Year 8.

Each Colorswirl pony has unique zebra like stripes covering her entire body, a square symbol, and two colors in her mane in tail.  An example of how her mane is rooted is pictured right (Lovebeam from a back view).  They have a stripe color in the mane.
The mane and tail are actually very long.  The Colorswirl Ponies were not sold in the U. K.

Lovebeam is white and orange swirled with dark pink and aqua hair.  Her symbol is Saturn inside a pink square.  She has blue eyes.

Fancy Mermaid Ponies (pony head and "arms" and a fish body)

Click here to see Mint in Package Photographs of Baby Fancy Mermaid Ponies and for a complete accessory listing.

Fancy Mermaid Ponies are baby mermaid ponies that are unique from other ponies and sea ponies.  The face resembles a larger version of the Teeny Tiny Ponies faces, with the same nose and eye accents.  Each has a comb-able mane.

These are not Sea Ponies, which do not have arms at all and have fins instead.  Sea Ponies come in both adult and baby form, but the baby sea ponies do not even closely resemble the baby mermaid set.  Sea Pony bodies are also more long and slender (with features like an actual sea pony but with a My Little Pony head).

Each has a symbol, though it is often harder to distinguish from photographs because of the light colors and pearlized symbols.  The symbol is contained within the heart on the chest.

Baby Pearly
is pink with dark pink hair and a blue whale symbol on her chest.  She has a pearly heart symbol and pearly tail.  She has pink eyes.  Her pose is unique only to this set of mermaid ponies.

Baby Sea Princess is blue with purple hair and has a pink crab symbol on her chest.  She has a pearly heart symbol and pearly tail.   She has pink eyes.   Her pose is unique only to this set of mermaid ponies.

Baby Sea Shimmer is purple with blue hair, and has a pink starfish symbol on her chest.  She has a pearly heart symbol and pearly tail.  She has yellow eyes.   Her pose is unique only to this set of mermaid ponies.

Flower Fantasy Ponies (flowers cover their bodies)

Click here to see Mint in Package Photographs of the Flower Fantasy Ponies and for a complete accessory listing.

Flower Fantasy Ponies each have long hair, intricate symbols and lacey bodies.  The distinction of these ponies from other ponies is that the entire body is covered with a painted on symbol of flowers and ribbons.  The symbols covering the body are Twice as Fancy type symbols.  They are all earth ponies and there doesn't seem to be pattern in the color or style.  One pony has a soft purple body, while another has a deep pink body with blue hair.

The Flower Fantasy Ponies were not sold in the U. K.

Flowerbelle
(earth pony) is purple with pink hair,  and her symbol is two pink interlocking hearts.  She is covered with blue flowers.  She has light yellow eyes and is in Up, Up and Away's pose.

Love Petal (earth pony) is white with purple hair, and her symbol is a blue lacy pattern with circular hearts.  She is covered with pink flowers and ribbons.  She has light green eyes.  Thanks to Melissa from the Royal Fortress for use of this photograph.

Paradise Baby Ponies

Click here to see Mint in Package Photographs of the Paradise Baby Ponies and for a complete accessory listing.

Paradise Babies were the only other babies issued beside the Teeny Tiny Twins (if you don't count the mermaids which are babies).  These baby ponies are really the first in the U. S. to sport such brilliant colors (aside from a stray pony here and there).  There were Tropical Pony adults, but never any babies.  There are three of these, each in different colors, poses, styles, and breeds (unicorn, Pegasus and earth).  These weren't the only tropical colored ponies sold in Year 10, the Sweetheart sister style, Sundazzle Ponies also have tropical colors.

Each Paradise Baby has the following in common:  Her body and hair are bright colors, each has a tropical related symbol, each has no forelock, but different colored streak about where the forelock would be, each has a double colored mane and tail.  The Paradise Baby Ponies were not sold in the U. K.

Baby Beach Ball
(unicorn) is bright orange with dark pink with purple accents, babybeachballsymbol.jpg (3480 bytes) and her symbol is a green and pink beach ball with a pink umbrella sticking in the sand.  She is in Baby Glory's pose and has green eyes.  Thanks to Rachel for use of this photograph.

Baby Palm Tree
(Pegasus) is bright pink with chartreuse with blue accents, and her symbol is two green palm trees.  She has a  first tooth.  She is in First Tooth Baby Bouncy's pose and has light pink eyes.  Thanks to Joanne for use of this photograph.
