Year 2 Accessories (1983) (U.S.)

From the few ponies released in 1982, there was a boom in 1983.  Many new styles, colors, and innovations were birthed in the My Little Pony line.  These ponies are some of the most well remembered. The earth ponies would now have the company of unicorn and Pegasus.  Many different body marking were tested:  freckles, blazes, glittery symbols, and rainbow hair.  Also made, were the sea ponies, which even appear on the television show.  Several of these ponies went on to be Softies, Ceramics, and other items.  Many ponies from Year 2 and 3 ended up having variations in countries all around the world.  I will list links to some of the variation pages with the actual pony sets.

Also, tons of new and well beloved playsets were sold, each having a special pony.  Some even have special friends, like a the little duck that came with the Waterfall.

Dream Castle (first edition)  with Majesty and Spike

Click here to see it mint in the original package and all the accessories that came with it!!

The Dream Castle was the original home of all the My Little Ponies, and it was a popular playset among children (and still is popular among collectors).  In My Little Pony:  The Movie, it was replaced with the Paradise Estate.  However, a later version of the Dream Castle (second edition) was released that had purple and aqua green accents, despite the Dream Castle's destruction.

The Dream Castle is pink with blue towers and a blue drawbridge (which has the emboss of a pony's head).  It also has with pink flags that sit atop the turrent and a purple base or floor.   It came with both Majesty and Spike, a pony and her dragon friend.  The accessories for the first and second releases of the Dream Castle are nearly the same, but with different colors.

Thanks to Christine for use of this photograph.

Here are the accessories included (for accessory photograph close up see the MIP Guide).

Majesty
(unicorn) is white with blue hair with a white streak and five glittery bluemagesty.jpg (31473 bytes) flowers.  This version of Majesty has a hairline that is further back than the Mail Order version.  She has either blue or purple eyes.  Her eye color varies, due to differences in paint mixing.  She is standing in Windy's pose.  There is also an Italian version of Majesty that is white with blue hair and has Twilight's star symbol.  She came with the Italian Dream Castle.
Thanks to Elizabeth for use of the photograph of Majesty pictured right.

Here's a comparsion of the regular version (pictured left) and the Mail Order version  is (pictured right).

Spike (baby dragon) is purple with a white tummy and green spikes down his back.  There are actually several versions of Spike.  There are three versions of Spike.  The first one is pictured below and comes with this set.  His colors are much less brilliant than the other two.  The second version came with the second Edition of the Dream Castle and was a violet purple instead of the less bright first version.   The third version is  Mail Order version of Spike, with rounded eyes instead of the thin eyes.  Internationally, Baby Dragons were sold  with the Princess Ponies (instead of Bushwoolies).  The Baby Dragons are cast in the same mold as Spike, but with different colors.

Pony Wear

This is the first set of Pony Wear ever made. Each backcard features the My Little Pony logo at the top of the card with the text Pony Wear in a ribbon below the logo. On the card it features a drawn image of a pony wearing the particular outfit that comes with the set. There is a different pony pictured on each outfit made.

These outfits were not intended to fit every pony. Ponies like Medley and Firefly (with the bent hoof) and Seashell and Bubbles (both in sitting poses) could not wear shoes. Also, certain outfits will not fit on Pegasi.

Most of these outfits were sold as International Pony Wear in countries such as Argentina and Greece. Some were also sold in the U. K. and throughout Europe, Australia, and other countries. Such items will be noted with the proper outfit.

A quick fact: All the cartoon ponies portrayed on the Pony Wear cards from this year feature one of the six Earth Ponies released in 1983.

In the link above you can view the Pony Wear both Mint in Package and see the individual pieces loose as well.

Best of the West
(cowboy outfit) pink saddle (heart accents), white cowboy hat with pink band, silver bridle and reins (bridle and reins are attached; flower accents), and silver saddle blanket with fringe trim. No shoes came with this set.
The card features Bubbles wearing this outfit.
Pony Royal
(princess outfit) royal deep pink cape with white trim and a silver accent across bottom, four lavender shoes (no bows across top), silver and clear crown (silver lace around the bottom) with pinkish-lavender ribbon attachment.
The card features Bowtie wearing this outfit. In 1985, this outfit was sold as International Pony Wear, in the U. K. and other European countries with the card name, Royal Pony.
The Tea Party (semi-formal outfit) straw hat with a lavender flower on it and pink ribbon accents, pink shoes (no bows on shoes), floral sheer coverlet. I wouldn't say it was intended to be a dress, due to the fact that is sheer. However, it's not exactly a saddle blanket either.
The card features Seashell (in her natural sitting pose) wearing this outfit.

Great Skates (skating outfit) four white quad skates with pink wheels, white headband with pink stripe accent, purple saddle blanket with bright pink trim accent and a pink ribbon waist tie, pink undecorated saddle.
The card features Applejack wearing this outfit. In 1985, this outfit was sold as International Pony Wear, in the U. K. and other European countries with the card name, Roller Skating.
Parade Pizzazz (marching outfit) neon green plume headband with pink and green accents on the bridle and forehead portion, neon green and purple saddle blanket (with silver and pink trim), 4 pink shoes (no bows on shoes).
Sweet Dreams (pajama outfit) pink terry cloth one-piece pajamas with white lace trim (small pink bow over the tail area), four pink fuzzy slippers, pink night cap with rosebud accents and pink ribbon tie, and three purple rollers (two large sized rollers and one small).
Odd facts: The purple rollers that came with this set also came with several other sets, like the Waterfall, for example. Also note that the pink material (with rosebud accents) that the night cap was made of was also used in other accessories and Pony Wear, such as the blanket from the Baby Buggy. Both the mother and baby dresses from Sunday Stroll were made from this same material.
The card features Cotton Candy wearing this outfit. In 1985, this outfit was sold as International Pony Wear, in the U. K. and other European countries with the same card name, Sweet Dreams.

Pretty Parlor with Peachy and Sprinkles

Click here to see it mint in the original package and all the accessories that came with it!!

Thanks to Tom and Michelle for use of photographs below.

The Pretty Parlor is a blue rectangular parlor that opens into a parlor place to make the ponies beautiful.  It came with combs, ribbons, name cards, bridles, hats, and a saddle.  It also came with nametags to display under the pony on center stage.  The nametags have the names of the original Collector Ponies and Lemondrop and Peachy.  It also comes with a special My Little Pony and a special tabby kitty cat.  The kitty even comes with a pink basket that can be strapped to Peachy's back.
It was reissued in Year 3.  It was called the Grooming Parlor outside the U. S., but it was basically the same building but came with Kisscurl.  There are some International versions of Peachy and the Pretty Parlor, in most cases the pony and accessories remained the same.  It was also offered as a Mail Order several times, but the Parlor never came with Peachy.  Also, in later years, another parlor was issued.  The Brush Me Beautiful Boutique is cast in the same mold as the Pretty Parlor, but with different colors.

When closed the Pretty Parlor displays a sticker decal picture of Butterscotch, the My Little Pony Logo, and the words "Pretty Parlor" displayed across.

Peachy
(earth pony) is peach with pink hair and pinkpeachyphotograph.jpg (24471 bytes) hearts, in the collector's pose.  She has baby blue eyes.  The common U. S. version is made in Hong Kong.  Peachy can fade to many odd colors; I've seen her with a pale body.  There are many, many International and alternate versions of Peachy (please note that the hyperlink will take you into the main International page, you will have to scroll down and look for the different versions of Peachy; she's in more than one place). The most common variation in the U. S. is the Mail Order version of Peachy (see Playset Ponies).  There is also a Flat Foot version of Peachy.  She is often confused with Snuzzle, a Collector Pony, who has the same symbol and hair color, but is gray.
Twinkles (kitty) is orange with black stripes on her back.  Another kitty was also made later on, to go with the US alternative version of the Pretty Parlor (Brush Me Beautiful Boutique).  She was white with green accents.

The Show Stable is a large white and purple stable, with a pony-shaped weathervane, and lots of accessories.  The shell of the stable has molded windows, thatch style roof, and two front swing doors.  It came with lots of pony jumps and equestrian type accessories.  It even came with a little puppy and pony.  Accessories include:  fences, jumps, trophies, tack items.  The roof lift up, for playing indoors.  There is also a handle on the roof, to carry it with.
It was released again in Year 4.  Also there is a Mail Order version.  Similar U. S. playsets include Megan's Place and Home Sweet Home, which are later editions.  These more rare editions came commonly be confused with the Show Stable.
Internationally it was sold as basically the same playset, but there are a few variations.  There is a version of the International Show Stable abroad were much more vibrant.  It was basically the same colors as Home Sweet Home, but had the Show Stable label.  Also there is an Italian Show Stable that comes with a variant Butterscotch (brown with pink hair) instead of Lemondrop.

Lemondrop (earth pony) is  yellow with purple hair and purple raindrops, inlemondrop.jpg (10521 bytes) collector's pose.  She haslemondropsymbol.jpg (3816 bytes) light purple eyes.  There are also several International variations of her. Lemondrop is prone to fading many shades of her normal colors. The most common variation is a US variation: Mail Order Version of Lemondrop (see Playset Ponies section).  There are also several International versions of her, see Lemondrop in the Variants Section.
Brandy (puppy)  is brown with a red tongue.  The International version of Brandy is dark brown all over, with no red tongue. There are two other puppies sold with playsets, pink and white Snowball that came with Megan's Place and a yellow doggie that comes with Home Sweet Home.

Waterfall with Sprinkles and Duck Soup

Click here to see it mint in the original package and all the accessories that came with it!!

The Waterfall is a cloud basin with a rainbow running from the base.  It has a large smiling sun next to the rainbow watching over the ponies.  The cloud on top of the rainbow is actually a working pony shower that came with bubbles. It came with brush, rollers, bubbles, ribbon, blanket, etc.
It was reissued in Year 3.  Internationally, there was an issue that came with a green base instead of a white one that came with Sprinkles.  Also there is a issue that came with Cascade instead of Sprinkles.  See Cascade and the Waterfall in the above link for more information about this version; it also lists information about the version that comes with Sprinkles.

Sprinkles (Pegasus) is lavender with blue hair and six blue ducks. ducksoup.jpg (48918 bytes)
There is a Mail Order version of Sprinkles that is pink instead of lavender!  It can often be difficult to distinguish the colors, because lavender is close to pink.  She is in Firefly's pose and has blue eyes.  Thanks so much to Elizabeth for use of the photograph pictured right.
Duck Soup (duck) is orange with a yellow beak and feet and collar.  He is the only duck friend in the My Little Pony line.
