Year 4 Accessories
(1985) (U. S.)

Year 4 was a huge year for the My Little Pony line, having some of the most famous and most infamous characters. The launch of My Little Pony: The Movie was nearing and Dream Valley was all ablaze.
Probably some of the most remembered characters were the Flutter Ponies, starring in the pony movie. They are lovely petite bodied ponies with thin, delicate wings (the bane of every child's existence; I believe all of mine were broken within the first week). Following the fame of the Flutter Ponies are the less popular Beddy Bye Eyes Ponies (most people either love them or hate them). These ponies came with many accessories and were the babies that could actually sleep and wake.
Another version of Megan and Sundance were released, and also now Molly and Baby Sundance. A special Party Gift Pack was also released, with five ponies and so many accessories. Another issue of Baby Sea Ponies would be issued, but they would be the only second edition (except Megan and Sundance).
Two new innovations came along this year (and would be released the next year as well): So Soft Ponies and Twinkle Eyed Ponies. One pony had was soft like real ponies and one had big sparkly eyes.
Also, perhaps one of the most famous playsets released, the Paradise Estate. This also had a relation to the movie, being where the ponies moved after the Dream Castle was destroyed. The fascination with the Paradise Estate lays partly in the hundreds of little accessories that came with the playset.

The Baby Bonnet School of Dance is a aqua
bonnet dance school. The bonnet opens out to reveal three
rounded circles (where ponies dance) and a mirror and bar. It came with
bunny, bumblebee, and swan friends to dance with Baby Half Note; a bumble friend
is pictured below, for additional close ups see the MIP section. Ponies
were placed on the pink circles and a wheel is turned to make the circles move
and makes the ponies "dance".
It was reissued in Year 5. The main difference
is the color of the ballet box. This ballet box is pink (see close-up
below) and the Year 5 version is yellow. This version also comes with
a yellow bar, and the version from Year 5 comes with a yellow box. For
more details on difference check the MIP section by following the link underneath
Baby Bonnet School of Dance.

The closed School of Dance shows off the bonnet shape
and sports a pink bow handle. The front of the bonnet has a lovely color
sticker decal featuring three babies (including Baby Half Note) in front of
the ballet bar. The decal also show the My Little Pony logo.

Baby Half Note (earth pony) is pale lavender with aqua hair and lavender
ballet slippers
tied with a pink ribbon (close up pictured right). Her eyes are aqua with
lavender eyes shadow. She is a Beddy-Bye
Eyes Ponies; her eyes open and close. She originally has curly
hair, though it is difficult to find her with her curl still in tact.
There is a second edition of Baby Half Note that is a Mail
Order Playset Pony. The main difference is that the mail order doesn't
have beddy-bye eyes.

Baby Pony Wear with Pocket Pals

with a complete accessory listing!
In the link above you can view the Pony Wear both Mint in Package and
see the individual pieces loose as well.
This Pony Wear came
in sets of two and was made specifically for Baby Ponies. A set includes 2
outfits, two pals, and miscellaneous items, like hats and shoes, that go with
the outfits. Every outfit comes with a pocket sewn onto it, for a place
for the pocket pal to rest. Each pocket pal consists of two pom poms. Most of
the outfits from this year are fairly easy to find. They were released with
the Baby Pony Wear with Pocket Pals from Year 5. These are the only outfits
offered for babies, aside from Mother and Baby Pony Wear. Another set of Baby
Pony Wear with Pocket Pals were released in Year 5.
These outfits were all sold in the
U. K. as well. Most retained the same names as they had in the U. S., though
some were changed. Changed names will be noted below. Some of these outfits
were sold as International
Pony Wear in Argentina, minus the pocket pal.
Each outfit set came with a flat body sticker depicting the babies wearing
their outfits.
Clown Suit and Bathrobe
set
Clown Suit is a multicolored, striped, polka-dotted clown costume. It comes

shoes, white clown pal (blue hat, red lips and nose, black triangular eyes,
yellow pom pom on hat). Click here
to see the clown pal.
Bathrobe is a yellow and white striped robe with yellow collar and yellow
pocket. It comes with a yellow shower cap and orange duck pal. Click
here to see the duck pal.
How do I know that the shoes go with the clown outfit and not the Bathrobe?
Honestly, the yellow looks like it would go with the Bathrobe. However, if you
look at the character sketch on the card of the two baby ponies, the pony wearing
the clown outfit is wearing shoes.
The card features Baby Shady and Baby Gusty wearing this outfit.
Dragon Suit is
a yellow dragon costume with green and white gingham-checked tail accents and
pocket, green spines, and dragon pal (green body, light green spikes, red tongue).
Click here to see the dragon pal.

underside, four white bow shoes, and frog pal (green body and arms, white eyes
with black pupils).

accessory listing!
In the link above you can view the Pony Wear both Mint in Package and see
the individual pieces loose as well.
Megan and Pony Wear was made specifically for use of Megan and one adult pony. Each pack came as a set, one outfit for Megan and one for the pony and outfits are theme based. Some of these outfits can be moderately difficult to find intact, especially smaller pieces, like Megan's shoes.
Please note that I refer to the hair ribbons as belonging to Megan instead of being pony tail ribbons. The reason for this is that the drawn pictures on each card show Megan wearing the ribbon in her hair instead of the pony wearing it on it's tail.
An odd fact: I've heard from U. K. collectors that in the U. K. and other European countries sometimes Megan and Sundance are packaged wearing some of the outfits below.
Each outfit set came with a flat
body sticker depicting Megan and Sundance wearing their outfits.
By the Sea (swimsuit outfits) Megan's blue bathing suit (with purple
and pink striped accents and purple straps), Megan's magenta hooded jacket (with
purple and blue striped accents), pony's blue hooded jacket (with purple and
pink striped accents and a pink bow on the chest)
,
Megan's lavender sunglasses, Megan's purple hair ribbon.
This is the only issue of Megan and Pony Wear that does not have shoes
or skates.
Country Jamboree (Country outfits) Megan's mint green overalls,
Megan's pink and white striped shirt with white collar, Megan's two pink shoes,
Megan's pink hair ribbon, pony's mint green saddle blanket (with sewn-on pink
heart with white lace trim and a pink and white striped trim with lace accents
around the bottom), four pink bow shoes.
Two of the three issues of Megan and Sundance also came with pink shoes for
Megan. The shoes that came with Country Jamboree appear slightly lighter than
the Megan and Sundance issue. Click
here to see the shoes that came with the original Megan and Sundance set,
for comparison of the two sets.
Flower Darlings (floral outfits) Megan's blue dress with white lace accents
on bodice and around bottom hem of dress (one white and yellow flower accent
on skirt of dress), Megan's flower lace headpiece, Megan's two white shoes,
pony's blue saddle blanket with blue ruffled accents (one white and yellow flower
accent on skirt of blanket), pony's four white bow shoes.
Ice Princesses (ski outfits) Megan's pink ski suit with white trim and
white fur, Megan's purple pants, Megan's two pink ice skates (white faux fur
trim) with pink blades, Megan's white hair ribbon, pony's pink ski suit with
white trim and white fur, pony's four white ice skates with pink blades. Both
jackets are hooded.
The pony's skates are the same as the ones that came with the adult skates of
Mother and Baby Pony Wear, Snow Angels.
Picnic In the Park (casual outfits) Megan's denim dress with adjoining
white shirt (red hearts and blue dots pattern covering shirt) with lace trim
sleeves and collar, Megan's two red shoes, Megan's red hair ribbon, pony's denim
saddle blanket with white accents (red hearts and blue dots pattern) around
the hemline of the blanket and the entire pocket area.
Sweet Dreams (Nightgown outfit) Megan's white nightgown (with small purple
flowers with green stems pattern; satin purple accents on gown and lace accents
around collar and outer areas), Megan's two purple shoes, Megan's purple hair
ribbon, pony's white nightgown (with small purple flowers with green stems pattern;
satin purple accents on gown and lace accents around collar and outer areas),
pony's four purple bow shoes.

tub, pink bowl, blue dresser).
Third release: Year 5, NBBE Tiddlywinks, second set of accessories
(pink tub, pink bowl, blue dresser).
The Lullabye Nursery is a large,
white pony nursery with a pink roof and diaper pin on top to carry it. The door
is shaped like a baby bottle. It has large square stickers with the alphabet
on it (looks like a building blocks) This is where all the baby ponies
lived in the television shows and movies. It came with bottles, diapers,
rattles, a teddy bear, bathtub, towel, baby powder, crib, hanging rocker, building
blocks, stack toy, duckie pull toy, blue bowl, B-A-B-Y necklace, blanket, pillow,
mobile, dresser, mirror, and purple bear brush.
The second release of the
Lullabye Nursery was much the same as the first, except for two major
differences: Baby Tiddlywinks was reissued with Beddy Bye Eyes and the
accessories were different colors. Differences included: pink bath
tub instead of blue, blue dresser instead of pink, pink bowl instead of blue,
mobile colors were switched. There are also several other small notable
differences.
Baby Tiddlywinks (earth pony) is pink with pink
hair and a white bib symbol. She has aqua blue eyes and dark pink or lavender
eye shadow. She was a Beddy
Bye Eyes Pony. She was the only one with Beddy Bye Eyes to be sold.
For information on the NBBE version of Baby Tiddlywinks that was sometimes released
with this Nursery, see Year 3.
Three U.
S. versions of Baby Tiddlywinks were made. Two of them came with the Lullabye
Nursery. The First edition sold had
Non Beddy Eyed Baby Tiddlywinks with freckles.
The second edition came with Baby Tiddlywinks as a Beddy Eyed
baby (or sometimes as a NBBE version). The last edition was sold with
the Playset Ponies (Mail Order Ponies),
non Beddy Eyed Baby Tiddlywinks without freckles. International
versions are mostly the same; however, there is a Brazilian
version of Baby Tiddlywinks.

Megan's Place has the same base
as the Show
Stable (white house, dark purple roof), so its copyright date is '83.
However, booklets enclose its date it in 1985. It is one of the most rare
accessories because it was only available to purchase at Sears in 1985. Also
see, Home
Sweet Home, which was a building in the same mold as the Show Stable and
Megan's Place.
The biggest confusion over Megan's
Place is what actually came with it. Here is what was offered: Megan's
Place for $21.99 (not including Megan and Sundance). You could buy Megan
and Sundance with Megan's Place for $28.98. Thanks to Inglemist
and her brochures for this information.
Megan's Place is purple with a white roof and Megan's Place written over
the mantel. It is in the mold of the traditional Show
Stable (thus the 1983 copyright date). It has pink flags and
an aqua weathervane. It has the standard rounded windows and swinging
doors. It includes several white fences, pink bed, pink award ribbons,
blue trophy cups, pink a frame jump, pink pole jump with blue pole, Snowball,
pink flags with white hearts. Also a blue heart shaped brush and blue
original comb.
Megan
and Sundance were also included with Megan's Place (though not always).
Megan and Sundance are pictured above. For more information about them,
please see their individual information (click on the link above).
Snowball (Puppy) is
white with a pink nose and pink ears.

Each back card features the My Little Pony logo at the top of the card with
the text Pony Wear in a ribbon below the logo. On the card it features a drawn
image of a pony wearing the particular outfit that comes with the set. By Year
4, standard Pony Wear began to become more complicated, with sets like Strike
up the band, with uniform, hat, skirt, shoes, and baton. I would say that Neon
Lights is probably the most common of the four sets; the others can be a little
more difficult to find.
Each outfit set came with a flat body sticker depicting the pony wearing her
outfit.
City Kids (casual 80's outfit) yellow shirt (with orange, pink, and
blue shapes; some triangular shapes), neon orange belt, blue metallic skirt
(orange thread lines), pink purse (pink ribbon strap and yellow button), four
yellow bow shoes.
Note that the purse came with other Pony Wear sets also, like one of the
Pony Packs, for example.
The card features Shady wearing this outfit.
Having a Luau (Hawaiian outfit) aqua green Hawaiian shirt with purple
and orange parrots sitting on a green leaves, deep yellow yarn "grass"
skirt, white mesh hat (with yellow trim and a pink flower on it), purple purse
(with orange handles and purple ribbon strap), four white bow shoes.
The card features Lickety-Split wearing this outfit.
Neon Lights (80's outfit) one piece jumpsuit (bright orange shirt overlaid
in white mesh with a bright pattern; also there is a yellow tie under the collar)
and an adjoined neon yellow skirt, black belt with gold belt buckle, four yellow
bow shoes. Please note that you cannot see the neon yellow portion of
the skirt from the way the card item is displayed.
The card features Paradise wearing this outfit.
Strike Up the Band (band uniform) gold band jacket with red
and gold striped trim, white skirt with gold and red striped trim, silver
baton, gold hat with red and gold striped trim and white feather plume, four

Paradise
Estate
Click here to see the Paradise
Estate mint in the original package with a complete accessory listing and accessory
pictures!

The Paradise Estate is the place that the ponies moved after
the Dream Castle was destroyed in My
Little Pony: The Movie, so it came along after the movie. So, in all honesty it was probably a
marketing ploy for the movie to make more money. The Paradise Estate is
all your ponies need to live in style, with a pool and four nice sized rooms.
The Paradise Estate doesn't come with any ponies, but it has more accessories
than any other playset released. You may hear the Paradise Estate referred
to by collectors as PE.
The Paradise Estate
is a large pony house containing four rooms and a pony pool. It is pink
in color with a dark pink roof. Each room on the sides are connect-able
to the corresponding room. The room have open arched doorways as well
as aqua trimmed windows. There were aqua gates in the same intricate style
as the windowsills; they let the ponies in and out of the pool room. There
is room on this side of the pool room for a lounge chair set with umbrella.
On the other side of the pool room is the actual semi-circular pool with steps
leading up to the pool. There are also two hanging porch lights on this
side.
See the photograph at the right for an example of the gate and lounge set.
See the bottom photograph for a close up of the pool.

Many accessories
are included that go into the four special rooms (excluding the main pool room):
kitchen, living room, nursery, and the bedrooms. For close ups
of the different rooms and accessories that go in specific rooms, please see
the Mint In Package Section (link listed above).
