Year 5 Accessories (1986) (U.S.)

Year 5 was an odd year for My Little Pony. Oddly enough, about half of the ponies sold are pretty hard to find. The other half, are pretty common. I'm not exactly why this is. Some new friends joined the other ponies. There were now Pony Friends, unique animals, in that classic style. There were also new Big Brother Ponies, that had special hats and bandanas. Also new were the Princess Ponies, royal ponies with bushwoolie pals. So Soft Sleepy Newborns were huge ponies that weren't really soft, but they were big and cute.
Twinkle Ponies and So Soft Ponies returned from Year 4 (and for some reason these new versions are harder to find than the old ones). Baby Sea Ponies returned with a new look. Also Baby Ponies now have a first tooth. Flutter Ponies returned with still frail wings, but bolder colors.
Other innovations include the Twice As Fancy Ponies that have symbols covering their entire bodies and Newborn Twins. The Newborn Twins were the smallest ponies yet. What's better than a cute, small baby pony? Two of them. They also came with quite a few accessories, all in doubles, of course.
The Party Pack from Year 4 was a birthday pack, this year a slumber pack would be issued. The Slumber Party pack came with all a pony needs to be happy. Also, several playsets were issued and specialty ponies with them.
Baby Bonnet School of Dance with Baby Half Note (Second Edition)
Thanks to Inglemist for use of the photograph of the yellow ballet box.
The Baby Bonnet School of Dance is a aqua
bonnet dance school. The bonnet opens out to reveal three
rounded circles (where ponies dance) and a mirror and bar. It came with
bunny, bumblebee, and swan friends to dance with Baby Half Note; a bumble friend
is pictured right, for additional close ups see the MIP section. Ponies
were placed on the pink circles and a wheel is turned to make the circles move
and makes the ponies "dance".
It was reissued in Year 5. The main difference
is the color of the ballet box. This ballet box is yellow (see close-up below) and the Year 4 version is pink. This version also comes with a pink
bar, and the version from Year 4 comes with a yellow bar. For more details
on difference check the MIP section by following the link underneath Baby Bonnet
School of Dance.
The closed School of Dance shows off the bonnet shape and
sports a pink bow handle. The front of the bonnet has a lovely color
sticker decal featuring three babies (including Baby Half Note) in front of the
ballet bar. The decal also show the My Little Pony logo.

Baby Half Note (earth pony) is pale lavender with aqua hair and
lavender ballet
slippers tied with a pink ribbon (close up pictured right). Her eyes are
aqua with lavender eyes shadow. She is a Beddy-Bye
Eyes Ponies; her eyes open and close. She originally has curly
hair, though it is difficult to find her with her curl still in tact.
There is a second edition of Baby Half Note that is a Mail
Order Playset Pony. The main difference is that the mail order doesn't
have beddy-bye eyes.
Baby Pony Wear with Pocket Pals
This set of Baby Pony Wear with Pocket Pals are some of the hardest to find Pony Wear items. Only two sets were produced, though some from Year 4 were released again. This Pony Wear came in sets of two and was made specifically for Baby Ponies. A set includes 2 outfits, two pals, and miscellaneous items, like hats and shoes, that go with the outfits. Every outfit comes with a pocket sewn onto it, for a place for the pocket pal to rest. Each pocket pal consists of two pom poms.
These are the only outfits offered for babies, aside from
Mother and Baby Pony Wear. Another set of Baby Pony Wear with Pocket Pals were
released in Year 4.
Lion Suit and Sleepwear set
Lion Suit is yellow with an furry orange mane and tail and comes with kitty
pal (orange body, black eyes, pink nose, and black mouth). Sleepwear
is melon orange nightgown (floral pattern) with green pocket and green trim,
melon orange night cap (floral pattern) with yarn green trim, four green fuzzy
slippers, with teddy bear pal. Both Lion Suit and Sleepwear pictured loose below;
not pictured are either pocket pals or fuzzy green slippers.
The
card features Baby Lickety-Split (lion suit) and Baby Fifi (sleep wear) wearing
this outfit.
Party Dress and Elephant Suit set
Party Dress is a white floral dress (with pink, purple and blue flowers
with green stems) with a purple bow on the chest and a purple pocket and comes
with four dark pink bow shoes. It also comes with puppy pal (white
body with brown ears, nose, and a brown spot on one eye). Elephant
Suit (elephant costume) is pink with gray feet, ear, and tail accents with
mouse pal (gray body, pink ears & nose and black eyes; pictured above). The Elephant Suit is pictured above, however, I currently have no photos
of the Party Dress.
The
card features Baby Quackers (elephant suit) and Baby Tic-tac-toe (party dress)
wearing this outfit.
Thanks to Heather Wilson for use of these photographs.

In the listing above you can see all the individual pieces that came with the
outfits.
Costume Wear consisted of very unique outfits that are still popular among collectors for their originality. Each came with a particular theme, such as an astronaut, genie, or rock star. The outfits themselves are flashy and shiny for the most part, full of glitz and glam and were not intended for timid ponies. One noteable feature about this set is that several ponies came with clear shoes filled with silver glitter, a very uncommon occurrence in Pony Wear styles.
Pictured on the cards of this set
of Pony Wear was the Second Edition of So Soft Ponies. There is an oddity about
the cards, though. Twilight is the only one not displayed. In her place is a
deep aqua pony, which could possibly have been Angel had another card not depicted
Angel (with lighter colors). So, I really can't say who, if any particular pony
they were trying to display on this card.
Abra-Ca-Dabra (genie outfit) blue-green shiny pants, blue-green and
gold top with see green trim (sleeves
are blue-green and sheer, blue-green sheer veil with gold trim (pictured upside
down below), shiny puffy ponytail holder with gold trim, four gold lamé
slippers.
The card features Taffy wearing this outfit.
Academy Award (movie star
outfit) silver dress with purple and blue lamé ruffled accents, purple
and blue lamé head accessory, 4 clear shoes (sprinkled with silver glitter).
The card features Angel wearing this outfit.
Galaxy Glamour (space outfit) gold lamé jacket with silver accents,
silver lamé pants, silver lamé jet pack with gold trim and silver
belt. Note that the jet pack also has silver fringe coming off the bottom of
the jet pack, a sort of mock flames. It also comes with a shiny silver ponytail
holder and 4 clear shoes (sprinkled with silver glitter).
The card features Hippity Hop wearing this outfit.
In the Center Ring (circus headmaster outfit) shiny silver outfit with
gold trim, shiny gold top with ruffle accents, purple plume headband, gold mask,
four purple bow shoes.
There is an oddity about who is on this card, a deep aqua pony, which could
possibly have been Angel had another card not depicted Angel (with lighter colors).
So, I really can't say who, if any particular pony they were trying to display
on this card.
Pony-Naut (space outfit) silver lamé space suit with gold accents
and a United States flag on the chest, clear space helmet (oblong to fit a pony's
head), golden jet pack with gold waist strap, 4 clear shoes (sprinkled with
silver glitter).
The card features Crumpet wearing this outfit.
Rockin' the Night Away (rock star outfit) shiny purple shirt
with rainbow accents on the collar, purple cuffs and white accents. It also
comes with shiny purple pants, shiny silver hand band (thin), rainbow pony gloves,
two purple bow shoes (for back hooves), white guitar (white glitter front, pink
strip, and a gold strap.
The card features Bangles wearing this outfit.

Third release: Year 5, NBBE Tiddlywinks, second set of accessories

The third release of the
Lullabye
Nursery was much like the second, except Non
Beddy Bye Eye Tiddlywinks was issued instead of the Beddy Eye version (second
edition). Accessories include pink tub, pink bowl, cradle, blue dresser,
swing, toys, purple rocker, mobile, etc.
Baby Tiddlywinks (earth pony) is lavender with pink hair and has a white
bib (with blue heart accent) for her symbol. She has three white freckles
on her nose. This version does not have beddy-eyes.
Three versions of Baby Tiddlywinks were made. The first
and third editions of the Lullabye Nursery had Non Beddy Bye Eye Pony (like the
one pictured below) and the second edition is Beddy
Bye Eyes pony (see Lullabye Nursery). The last edition was a Mail

The Pony Packs were additional
accessories for your ponies. Each pack had a theme though they are not
formally named. Each came with six items, three of which are a comb, ribbon,
and shoes. Several of these accessories are unique only to the Pony Packs and
weren't really sold with other accessory sets.
These are the only four Pony Packs
ever to be sold in stores; they were sold Internationally as well. All cards
have the same two ponies depicted on them, Quackers and Tic-Tac-Toe.
"Dress up Set" light blue sunglasses with blue jewel accents,
dark pink purse (pink ribbon strap and yellow button), blue diamond ring with
blue stone, 4 purple bow shoes, yellow shooting star comb, pink ribbon.
Also note that the purse came with other Pony Wear items as well.
"Princess Set" pink jeweled tiara (varying shades of pink jewels),
silver lamé purse with strap, diamond earrings (white earrings with pink
jewels and pink dangles), 4 deep pink bow shoes, yellow bird brush, aqua green

Pony Purse with Baby Crumpet
(Second Edition Pony Purse)
Click here to see Mint in Package Pony Purse and a more complete accessory listing.
Thanks to Tom and Michelle Hall for use of the below
photos.
The Pony Purse (2nd Edition) is purple with a pink and white striped pocket. It
had the My Little Pony logo on the bottom, left corner of the purse. It still has the
same rainbow strap as the first edition purse. The first edition of the
Pony
Purse came with Baby Sleepy Pie.

Baby Crumpet (earth pony) is all yellow
with a blue teapot and cup.
She has a first tooth. (Note: Baby Crumpet's symbol is very prone to
fading, if you see her with a lavender symbol, it has faded). She has blue
eyes.
Baby Crumpet is a highly sought after pony. It
is very rare to find her and her purse together.

Here is the last installment of Pony Wear to be offered.
Each outfit was unique and had an intricate theme. All outfits are moderately
hard to find today. Some seem to be more common than others, but they are all
desirable sets. Some of the easier to find outfits, like Pretty as a Picture
and Milk 'n Cookies have small accessories that are not as easy to find as the
outfit. A little side note, all the accessories that came with these sets are
unique. Hasbro reused some Pony Wear items at times, but they went totally authentic
with this Pony Wear. For example, the boggin with Hit the Slopes is not the
standard pink it white boggin, it's a new boggin made only for Hit the Slopes.
Get Into the Groove (80's outfit) dress (blue top with green trim,
yellow skirt with green and blue square
pattern covering entire skirt), blue stereo (with gold strap), yellow hair clip,
four blue ankle socks, four yellow bow shoes.
Of the times: Get into the Groove is an outfit that reflects a style of
the 1980's. It hints at a musical theme, and as a side note, Get into the Groove
was a popular song by Madonna in the 80's.
The card depicts Moondancer wearing this outfit.
Hit the Slopes (ski outfit) dark pink ski suit (composed of pants and
straps that reach around the pony's chest), a purple and pink boggin (with white
trim and purple yarn pom pom on top), purple adjoined skis (holds one pony hoof),
clear (purple tint) ski glasses (with purple head strap).
The card depicts Cotton Candy wearing this outfit. There are other pink earth
ponies but I'm assuming it's Cotton Candy because all the other cards are based
on ponies from Year 2.
Milk 'n Cookies (nightgown outfit) white gown with
green frogs covering it and yellow trim, white nightcap with green frogs (with
yellow trim at bottom), dark yellow blanket, dark yellow pillow, white plate
with 3 molded cookies, and white cup.
The card depicts Posey wearing this outfit.
Pony Holiday (casual outfit) yellow and pink floral dress (flowers are
pink with green center and dress has pink trim), straw hat with pink trim, yellow
suitcase, and four dark pink bow shoes.
The card depicts Surprise wearing this outfit.
Pretty As a Picture (art outfit) white shirt covered in colored
paint splotches (with red, yellow, blue, orange, and green paint globs), blue
denim pants, round red beret, four red bow shoes, round pallet (with red, yellow,
blue, orange, and green paint globs) and paintbrush (red handle and black brush).
The card depicts Bowtie wearing this outfit.
Sidewalk Surfer (80's outfit) very shiny reddish dress (it has an iridescent
look, shining green when the light hits it a certain way) with gold belt, red
skateboard, red headphones, gold visor, two gold kneepads.
The card depicts Applejack wearing this outfit.
Perm Shoppe with Fifi
Click here to see Mint in Package Perm Shoppe and a more complete accessory listing.
The Perm Shoppe was the premiere spot for ponies to look
their best. It became one of four U. S. My Little Pony
beauty related parlors, but had more accessories then any of the previous
versions. The Poof
'n Puff
Perfume Palace was
came out in Year 6, which was a
place for ponies to get all dressed up. There was also the Pretty
Parlor and the Brush
Me Beautiful Boutique.
The Perm Shoppe is shaped like a yellow dresser with a small pink heart
mirror. It has lace trim around the edge of the roof and bow
accents. The top and base are light pink in color. It has a special
working rinse shower and even comes with real makeup. There is even a stand to
rest your ponies one while you make them up.
It opened to reveal a lovely place to style your ponies.
The Perm Shoppe came with a twice
as fancy pony and a plethora of accessories. For

right cheek and blue eyes. She is in Up, Up, and Away's pose and is a Twice
as Fancy Pony.
