My Little Ponies and Friends (U.S.)
Year 7 Accessories (1988)

Year 7 was Hasbro busiest year for the actual My Little Pony line (disregarding subsequent lines like Dream Beauties etc.). It was a totally innovative year for Hasbro, nearly every set this year was a totally new idea. A nice lot of baby ponies are issued this year, including a full set of adorable Baby Brother Ponies. Summer Wing Ponies became Windy Wing Ponies and find their place among collector's favorites. Also new adult lines sport a unique flare distinct to each group of ponies, Perfume Puffs have enormously puffy hair, Sparkle Ponies have sparkle filled bodies that glisten from head to toe, Merry Go Round ponies are beautiful intricately designed carousel ponies, and Candy Cane Ponies are Sweet Smelling Ponies with huge bouncing curls. Also this year brought the family sets of ponies, Loving Family Ponies, which came in sets of three: Mommy, Daddy, and Baby. This is also the third and last issue of U. S. Megan and Sundance. Megan gets an altogether new look; much like a Hasbro Moondreamer.
This will be the last "traditional" year for Hasbro, after this year you will see them experiment with various ideas that vary from the norm of the My Little Ponies line. The years that follow include Dream Beauties, Petites, and My Little Puppy, Kitty and Bunny. Also, set numbers will change from the traditional six.

photographs of accessories.
Even though the first Dream
Castle been destroyed, in
My
Little Pony: The Movie, it was replaced with the Paradise Estate, it
managed to come back somehow. The first edition of the Dream Castle was an
extremely popular item. The second edition was probably a little less
modestly priced and less accessible.
The Dream Castle (second edition)
is
purple with aqua green towers and pink tower flags. I have also heard the
aqua green color described as mint green, but there is very little
difference. The base is a darker aqua green and it comes with basically
the same accessories as the first castle, but all accessories were different
colors. It also came with Spike, who has slight color differences. Other accessories included: pink hoops,
aqua green and pink bed,
yellow mirror, yellow treasure chest, pink table, blue cups, yellow shoe holder,
shoes, basket, and stickers.

Majesty (unicorn) is white with blue hair with a
white streak and five glittery blue
flowers. This version of Majesty has a hairline
that is further back than the Mail Order version. She has either blue or
purple eyes. Her eye color varies, due to differences in paint mixing.
She is standing in Windy's pose. This is the reissue of Majesty, but I know of
no differences in the two versions. There is also an Italian
version of Majesty that is white with blue hair and has Twilight's star
symbol. She came with the Italian Dream Castle.
Thanks to Elizabeth for use of the photograph of Majesty
pictured right.
Here's a comparison of the regular version (pictured left)
and the Mail Order
version is (pictured right).

Spike (baby dragon) is purple with a white tummy and green spikes down
his back. There are three versions of Spike. The first one is came with
the first edition of the Dream
Castle (blue and pink version). His colors are much less brilliant
than the other two. The second version (this version) came with the second
Edition of the Dream
Castle and was a violet purple instead of the less bright first
version. The third version is Mail
Order version of Spike, with rounded eyes instead of the thin eyes.
Internationally, Baby
Dragons were sold with the Princess Ponies (instead of Bushwoolies).
The Baby Dragons are cast in the same mold as Spike, but with different colors.

Home Sweet Home is suspiciously similar to the Show
Stable. Actually they are made from the same mold and have the same
accessories, all with different colors of course. Home Sweet Ho
me
is distinguishable from the Show Stable, by the bright pink roof and the logo
with Home Sweet Home on the label. This set didn't come with a pony, but
did come with a puppy.
Home Sweet Home is white with a pink roof and a
purple base. It came with aqua green and yellow flags and a purple pony
weathervane. Accessories included purple fences, purple trophy cups, yellow
bed, blue bridle, three yellow award ribbons, etc. It has the My Little Pony
logo and Home Sweet Home decal above the gate doors. Home Sweet Home's
molding is the same as the Show
Stable. It has the standard swinging doors and rounded windows.
The other variant version of the Show Stable that was released is Megan's
Place, which is purple with a white roof.
Pictured below are several of the accessories that came with
Home Sweet Home; it also came with a special puppy. This was basically the
same stable as the 1989 International
release of the Show Stable. It had the same colors and basically the
same accessories (only very slight differences). Most of the accessories
with the two sets are the same. However the logo label
was different and Home Sweet Home did not come with Lemondrop or Brandy.

Puppy (name unknown) is yellow with violet ears, eyes, and
nose. She has a red tongue and is in the same mold as Brandy.
Also there is a pink and white puppy, Snowball, that came with Megan's
Place. Thanks to Sara for this photograph.

Pony Make-Up
Pony
make-up was available through purchasing specially marked packages of ponies.
There were three lipsticks, three eye shadows, and three nail polishes.
One came with each specially marked pony. Pony lipstick and nail polish
also came with the Poof 'n Puff Perfume Palace. Eye Shadow came with the
Perm Shoppe.

The Rock-a-Bye Bed was a special bed playset that came all
your pony needs
for a good night's rest. The bed, itself, actually rocks back and
forth. It also had a headboard display that could change scenes. It did
not, however, come with a pony, which is also common to the tub and the crib.
The Rock-a-bye Bed is an aqua blue bed with
molded pink bows across the molded duvet. The headboard is yellow and is
change-able. It came with several accessories,
including an alarm clock, fuzzy slippers, rollers, comb, eye mask, diary,
pillow, patchwork blanket, and pink and green striped nightcap.
Scrub-a-Dub Tub
The Scrub-a-dub Tub is
an aqua tub with legs shaped like sea ponies. It has a
white shower head and a bar that encircles the tub (for the curtain), and a
clear shower curtain covered with yellow sea ponies. It also came with
several accessories--white rubber ducky, pink towel, white soap, pink soap dish
that clings to the side of the tub, purple star sponge, and yellow shower cap.
There are no ponies included.
However, there is a version of the tub that came with three
ponies, but only one is known to exist. No one is certain where it came
from.

Thanks to Tina for use of her photograph of the Scrub-a-Dub Tub.
Please note: The Scrub-a-Dub Gift
Pack was also released (though I'm not sure where it was released). It came with the tub, accessories, plus three
ponies. It came with Sparkle Pony Sky Rocket, Merry Go Round Flower
Bouquet/or Sunnybunch, and Sweetheart Sister Spring Song.

The
gift pack came with the same accessories as the regular tub, but an extra
accessory was added, a blue flower brush.
The Sweet Dreams Crib is a white baby
crib like no other U. S. crib. It is
much larger than standard cribs, like those that came with the Lullabye Nursery.
The crib is intricately designed with a white encasing and a yellow crib bottom. It
has a colored pony mobile hanging over it and also came with a baby blanket, baby identification bracelet, rattle,
duck comb, duck pull toy, and green pillow. No ponies were included with
it.
There are several related
cribs. A Bed and Crib playset was sold in the U. K. and a crib came with
each edition of the Lullabye Nursery. They are much smaller than this
version, though.
