My Little Ponies and Friends (U.S.)
Year 8 Accessories (1989)

Year 8 seemed to slow down from the bustle of Year 7.  There were only about ten sets sold in Year 8, verses Year 7's sixteen sets.  Hasbro was focusing on other lines as well as the My Little Pony line.  Year 8 was the first year that the Petite My Little Ponies would be issued; also this is the year that Dream Beauties were issued.  Many sets from Year 8 would bear a striking resemblance to ponies in the past or ponies that would come from sets in the future.

The Pony Bride will have a near replica to herself come out in year 10, Prom Queen and Glittery Sweetheart Sisters are continuations of the original Sweetheart Sister Ponies, Baby Sparkle Ponies were based on the same principle as adult Sparkle Ponies, the Christmas Pony Merry Treats wasn't the first Christmas Pony and the Sweetsteps Ballerinas would have babies fashioned after them the following year.  The Drink 'n Wet line was unique, featuring ponies that could drink real water from a bottle and wet from a hole in the back.  Also, the Tropical Ponies and Rainbow Curl Ponies are unique; still there were similar sets to these.

You will note that this year there would be a shift in the traditional sets.  Many sets from Year 7 and before had a set of six ponies.  Now there would only be four in most of these set up until Year 10 (most of these were in sets of three).

Thanks to Tina for photographs of Baby Princess Sparkle and the Princess Baby Buggy.

This is actually the third release of a Baby Buggy.  The first version of the Baby Buggy came with Baby Cuddles.  There are several issues of that Buggy, information listed under the section in the link.  The Princess Baby Buggy is the third version of the Baby Buggy, but is often said to be the second (since the second release is the Baby Buggy with Cuddles, but she has Beddy Eyes).  The first buggy is much common and is white instead of pink.  It comes with an aqua blue baby pony.  This version comes with Baby Princess Sparkle.

The Princess Baby Buggy is a bright pink baby buggy. It has a pink basket with white lace trim and a pink canopy covered in silver sparkles (and also has silver lace trim).  The canopy has a pink heart topper and a ribbon tied around it.   It has white bars that have pink and white flower accents on the handle.  It also has purple wheel covered in silver sparkles with pink and white flower centers.  The Princess Baby Buggy came with some unique accessories: a barrette (crown or shooting star), pink blanket, aqua sipper cup, dark aqua dish, pink spoon, and pink or lavender comb.  The blue sipper cup is unique and isn't released with any other U. S. version.  She also comes with a unique silver lace tail ribbon.

Baby Princess Sparkle (earth pony) is white with pink hair and colored tinsel in her mane and tail.  She has pale blue eyes and a glittery golden star on her forehead.  Her symbol is a glittery gold castle with purple turrets and flags sitting on a white cloud (with purple accents).
