Rainbow Ponies

Rainbow Ponies were first offered in Years 2 and Years 3.  Mail Order versions were also issued of Pinwheel, Trickles, Confetti, Flutterbye, Parasol, and Moonstone.

Moonstone and Parasol were Year 2 issues.

Confetti, Flutterbye, Parasol, and Pinwheel were Year 3 issues.

They were from two different sets of ponies.  For details on hair color, symbols, etc., see the above links.

They were offered in Year 6 (1987) for $4.00 + 1 horseshoe point or $4.75 and no horseshoe points per pony. You could get all 6 ponies for $20.00 + 3 horseshoepoints or $22.75 + no horseshoe points.

Rama Llama

Perhaps one of the strangest items to relate to the My Little Pony line.  Here is a Llama that was a promotional item available through the Jem series (the Jem series of dolls were a rock type of doll sold in the 1980's; Jem had her very on television show).  She was available through mail order Internationally in the My Little Pony line.   She was available by Mail Order around Year 8.

Rama Llama (Llama) is pink (legs and face) with bright pink fur and blue eyes.  She has purple hooves.

She came with a lavender llama-shaped brush, and colorful blanket.  The colorful printed blanket is a saddle blanket that goes over her back.

Related items:  There is a llama Pony Friend named Cha Cha, but she bears little resemblance to the Rama Llama.  She was not the only item sold in another line and somehow ended up in the My Little Pony line.  A Charmkin's Charm in the shape of a Mummy Charm was sold as a Charmkin's item; however, in Sweden it was available in the My Little Pony line.

Rapunzel (long hair)

Rapunzel is one of the most sought after U. S. ponies.  Her short availability makes her difficult to find.  She is a one of a kind pony with tons and tons of hair.

Rapunzel
(earth pony) is pink with pink and golden hair and red tinsel. Her hair israpunzel3.jpg (10293 bytes) an overall gold color, with a bit of pink in the mane and tail.   Her hair measures about 14 inches, and is hung in large curls. She has red tinsel in both her mane and tail.   Her symbol is *Rapunzel looking out of the tower with her two braids hanging down.  She is in Quacker's pose and has blue eyes.

*Rapunzel is a fairy tail character that is locked in a tower by an evil witch for many years until a prince comes to save her and they live happily ever after.

She was issued only in 1990, for $8.95 +2 horseshoe points or for $10.50 without any horseshoe points.  She was issued with other ponies, such as Pearly Babies, Gametime, Sugarcake, Mommy and Baby Pony, Satin Slipper Sweet Shoppe.  She is shown in the picture above with her actual accessories.

Related Ponies:  Goldilocks is the other mail order fairy tale pony, though they are not exclusively related.  Princess Brush 'n Grows have extra long thick manes, just like Rapuzel.  They also have tinsel in their hair.

She was not available in the U. K.

Satin 'n Lace and Coat 'n Tails (or Tux 'n Tails)

These are the unique wedding couple.  Satin 'n Lace was first offered with only Lucky (no groom Tux) in Year four.  Also offered with her was Lucky.   Later on several mail orders were issued offering them in a variety of ways.  There were three different issues of Satin 'n Lace sold via Mail Order, each came with a complete wedding outfit, pictured below.

Satin 'n Lace
(earth pony) is all pink with white wedding bells tied with a blue ribbon.  She is the most common, available in stores and through mail order.  She is a much lighter shade of pink than the Magenta version.  She is standing in Posey's pose (like all other versions of Satin 'n Lace).  She has blue eyes.  She came with a complete wedding outfit; more details listed below.

*Satin 'n Lace
(earth pony) is magenta with pink hair, white wedding bells tied with blue ribbon.  She has the same symbol as the regular version above.  She is standing in Posey's pose (like all other versions of Satin 'n Lace).  She has blue eyes.  She came with a complete wedding outfit; more details listed below.   Thanks to Pinwheel for use of this photograph!

Satin 'n Lace (So Soft earth pony) is pink (actually body is magenta underneath flocking) with white wedding bells tied with a blue ribbon.  Her symbol is the same as the other two.  She is a So Soft Pony, covered in a velvety fur.  She is standing in Posey's pose (like all other versions of Satin 'n Lace).  She has blue eyes.  She came with a complete wedding outfit; more details listed below.

They each came with a white wedding dress (6-petal flower with center design), garter belt (bell-shaped, wider elastic leg hole), diamond ring (gold band, small ring), 4 white bow shoes, and veil (lace design with a diamond shape (smaller, narrower than Pony Bride's).  *Thanks to Lady Twilight for the information on the outfit*

Tux 'n Tails or Coat 'n Tails (earth pony)  is all blue with a white streak in his mane and five white bow ties for his symbol.  He is actually closer in color to a medium blue to dark blue;  He can fade, however, to a regular blue. He has purple eyes.  His accessories include a white bow tie, around his neck (shown right).  Thanks to Pinwheel for use of the photograph below!

He is in the standard Big Brother or Daddy mold with feathered hooves.    He is very similar in color to Big Brother Quarterback, except Quarterback has a football symbol.

Coat 'n Tails and Tux 'n Tails are the same pony, he was called Tux 'n Tails in Mail Offers and was later renamed Coat 'n Tails.

These were each released several times, sometimes together and sometimes separately.  I will listed the issue dates that I have, but I am certain that Satin 'n Lace was released at least one more time (and I don't have the info).

Satin 'n Lace (pink version) was first offered in Year 4 (1986).  Satin 'n Lace was released in 1987 for $6.50 +1 horseshoe point.  She was offered in another 1987 brochure for the same amount (So Soft Version).

Coat 'n Tails was offered in 1988.  Tux 'n Tails was released in 1989 for $6.00 + 2 horseshoe points or $7.50 and in 1990 he and Satin 'n Lace were offered together.

*Thanks to Pinwheel for use of her pictures, So Soft Satin 'n Lace, Magenta Satin 'n Lace, and Coat 'n Tails.   You can check her site at www.starlightvalley.com.

Sparkle Ponies (cheek symbols, other subtle differences)

These were first sold in stores in Year 7, before they ever became Mail Orders.  The Mail Orders had slight differences from the store versions, including cheek symbols and color differences.  Sparkle Ponies are the first ponies produced that have sparkles in the molds of the bodies.  Their bodies glisten from head to toe.  The Sparkle Ponies also have sky related symbols and tinsel in the hair.  There are six ponies in this set, each is a different color.  There is one unicorn, one Pegasus, and four earth ponies.

There will be a set of Baby Sparkle Ponies issued in Year 8.  Also the Glow 'n Show ponies are similar; they have heart and star filled bodies (instead of glitter).

The Mail Order versions were not sold in the U. K.

The mail order version has a cheek symbol.

Twinkler (Pegasus) is purple with blue and gold tinsel and pink and yellow twinkling stars.  She sometimes fades to a brown-like color.  She has twinkling stars on her cheek as well.  She is in Dancing Butterfly's pose.  She has pink eyes.

Spike

There were several versions of Spike with very slight differences from themailorderspike.jpg (20532 bytes) original (like color, for example).  The mail order version of Spike had the most notable differences from the others.  The store issues of Spike has notably thin, slited eyes (close up of regular store version pictured below) and the mail order version has happy, cartoon-like eyes.  They were much more round.
Spike (dragon) is lavender with a white tummy and green spikes.  He has cartoon-like eyes and is a baby dragon.

He was offered in Year 4.  He was offered in 1987 for either $2.00 + 1 horseshoe point or $2.75 and no points.  He was offered again with the MO Sparkle Ponies and others.

Stockings

Stockings
(earth pony) is white with pink (deeper pink, more of a magenta color) curly hair with a green and pink stocking for her symbol.  She has purple eyes.

She is standing in the Collector Pony's pose, and offered only in Year 5.  She is  similar to the Birthflower Ponies in body style and color, down to the purple eyes.  She has a symbol that is the same design as the Rice Crispies Christmas Baby Pony, affectionately nicknamed "Baby Stockings" by some collectors.  The other Christmas pony (which was sold in stores) is called Merry Treat.

She is the hardest to find of all three American Christmas ponies.   Her insert was mailed exclusively via Hasbro featuring a holiday party and a poster.

Sweet Scoops with matching charm

Sweet Scoops
(earth pony) is purple with pink hair and a white ice cream cone.  The cone part is pink and the ice cream is white. She is in Applejack and Bowtie's pose.  She has pink eyes.

Please do not confuse with any Sundae Best or Sweetberry pony.  This is a common misconception for new collectors.  She shares nearly the exact same colors as Sherbert, a Sundae Best Pony.
Sweet Scoops Charm is identical to her, but is prone to fading, so it may look lighter lavender.  It is identical to a mommy charm in looks, same shape, flower in mouth and tail.  Sweet Scoops charm goes on a pink string, making it a necklace. They were offered in Year 8.

She was sold in 1989 for $8.50 + 3 horseshoe points or $10.00 and no horseshoe points.  This is the only time she was offered.

Twice as Fancy Baby Ponies (symbols coving whole bodies)

The Twice as Fancy Babies were special babies fashioned after the Twice as Fancy Ponies (First Edition) in Year 5. They came as earth ponies, unicorns, and Pegasus, not necessarily matching their mothers.  For example, adult Milky Way is a unicorn and Baby Milky Way is a Pegasus.  They each had symbols covering their entire body and a symbol on their cheeks or foreheads, just like the mothers.  There aren't any other Twice as Fancy Baby Ponies, so these are totally unique.

They came out in Year 8.  They were sold in 1989 for $4.50 + 1 horseshoe points or $5.25 without.  They were sold specially for $22.50 + 4 horseshoe points or $25.00 and none.

Baby Dancing Butterflies
(Pegasus) is all yellow with pink and blue butterflies covering her body and a pink butterfly on her nose. She has a first tooth.  She is in Baby Bouncy's pose and has blue eyes.
Baby Love Melody (earth pony) is purple with pink hair.  She has pink hearts strung by  white ribbons covering her body, and two strung hearts on her right cheek; She has a first tooth.  She is in Baby Tic Tac Toe's pose and has pink eyes.
Baby Milky Way (Pegasus) is pink with a white hair with a blue streak in her mane.  She has a first tooth.  Her symbol is silver glittery stars covering her body and there are three stars on her left cheek.  I believe there is another version of her with only one star.  She is standing in Baby Bouncy's pose.
Baby Sweet Tooth (unicorn) is blue with pink hair and pink and blue lollipops covering her body. She has two lollipops on her left cheek (pink and blue ones).  She is standing in Baby Glory's pose and has purple eyes.
Baby Sugarberry (earth pony) is white with bright pink hair. She has red strawberries covering her body and a strawberry on her forehead.  She has a first tooth.   She is standing in Baby Tic Tac Toe's pose and has purple eyes.
Baby Up, Up, and Away (unicorn) is dark pink with pink hair and green and yellow balloons covering her body and has a yellow balloon on her right cheek.  She is standing in Baby Glory's pose and has blue eyes.

Valentine's Day Twins

They were not available by the standard brochure from Hasbro, but instead through Current, a stationary company.  It's actually odd that ponies would come from a stationary company, however, Current also did My Little Pony Stationary related items, such a MLP notepads.

Purple Valentine Twin
(earth pony) is purple with pink hair and a pink heart with an arrow going through it.  She has a first tooth.  She is standing in Baby Tic Tac Toe's pose and has pink eyes.
White Valentine Twin (earth pony) is white with red hair and a red heart with a pink and red rainbow over it.   She is standing in Baby Blossom's pose and has baby blue eyes.
These ponies formally have no names that are known, and were available around '88.
