My Little Pony Television Specials:
"Firefly's Adventure"
Debut and Status:
This was My Little Pony's first theatrical
performance. It was aired in 1984, in two parts, and was simply referred
to as "My Little Pony" at that particular time. However it later
became more commonly referred to as "Firefly's Adventure." It is
also called "Rescue at Midnight Castle" This particular special
was sold on video cassette later with a special Firefly pony,
1990. It aired on the Disney repeated times after its initial
debut.
I am not exactly sure how they made it into a two part
series. Perhaps they aired it with something else. The actual show
is about 30 minutes long total.
Synopsis:
The ponies are all outside playing when they are
attacked by Strattadons, which are flying gargoyle-like creatures. The
ponies race back to the Dream Castle, but Cotton Candy and Moondancer are
captured. The Strattadons take them to Midnight Castle where they are held
captive by Tirek. Tirek, the very evil villain, is angry with
his minions, Scorpan and Spike for letting two of the ponies get away.
Tirek needed four ponies to pull his chariot for him. So they go after the
ponies once again.
Meanwhile, Megan is grooming her own pony when Firefly falls
down from the sky. She introduces herself to Megan. This is
the first time Megan has met any of the ponies. She is wisped away to Ponyland
by Firefly to see if she can help the ponies. By this time the Strattadons
are again attacking the ponies; one grabs Megan on the way back, but she is
freed by Firefly. Even though they escape, Bubbles and Ember are
captured. Ember is too small to drive the chariot, so Tirek locks her
away. He changes the other three ponies into dark creatures to drive the
chariot. He tells Scorpan and Spike to get the other pony.
Megan, Firefly, Bowtie, Applejack, and Twilight start out to
Mr. Moochick's house at the Mushromp to see if he can help them. They meet
the sea ponies along the way and the sea ponies sing a lovely song for
them. Also, the sea ponies give Megan a piece of shell to signal for the
sea ponies if they needed them. When they arrive at Mr. Moochick's, he
tells them to get Tirek's Rainbow of Darkness. So, he gives Megan the
Rainbow of Light, a locket, which will appear several times after this episode.
So Megan and the ponies head to Midnight Castle, but they
can't get past the moat. So Megan signals the Sea Ponies with the shell
and the Sea Ponies carry them across. Along the way, Applejack is captured
and turned into a dark creature, and Tirek now has the four horses for his
chariot. The Ponies attack Tirek, Scorpan turns on Tirek and helps the
ponies in their endeavors. Just as Tirek takes off in the Chariot of
Darkness, Megan uses her Rainbow of Light against him. He is defeated and
the four ponies change back into their former selves. Scorpan is
transformed into a good prince, and Spike befriends the ponies. As with
most MLP movies, Megan is taken back home by one of the ponies.

Opening Theme Song in "Firefly's
Adventure"
The Ponies sing this song as they show
opens, before they were attacked.
My Little Pony, My Little Pony,
Isn't the world a lovely place,
My Little Pony, My Little Pony,
Everywhere you go, a smiling face,
Running and skipping; merrily tripping,
Watching the morning unfold,
My Little Pony, My Little Pony,
What does the future hold?
"Call Upon the Sea
Ponies"
Megan
and Applejack are rescued by the Sea Ponies, all of a sudden they start
singing...
All of the Sea Ponies:
Shoop-be-doo-shoop-shoop-be-doo,
Call upon the Sea Ponies when you're in
distress,
Helpful as can be ponies - simply signal S.
O. S.,
If you find you're past the drift and haven't
got an oar,
Count upon the Sea Ponies - they'll see you
to shore,
Shoop-be-doo-shoop-shoop-be-doo.
Seawinkle:
Are you sinking fast?
Wavedancer:
Had some nasty shocks?
Sealight:
Feeling like all hope is gone and washed up
on the rocks?
All Sea Ponies:
Washed up on the rocks,
Shoop-be-doo-shoop-shoop-be-doo,
Call upon the Sea Ponies when you're in
distress,
Helpful as can be ponies - simply signal S.
O. S.,
If your rudder runs aground or seaweed holds
a grip,
Count upon the Sea Ponies - they'll see you
get help,
Sea Ponies, Sea Ponies,
Simply signal S. O. S., simply signal S. O.
S.,
Sea Ponies, Sea Ponies,
Simply signal S. O. S., simply signal S. O.
S.,
Oh, yes!
"Dancing On Air"
Megan sings this songs when Firefly comes to take her back to Ponyland.
Firefly:
They'll be dancing on air when they meet you,
Dancing on air with glee.
Megan:
I doubt they'll be celebrating when they see
it's only me.
Firefly:
They'll do cartwheels in air when they see
you,
Their hope will start to rise.
Megan:
From what they're anticipating, they're in
for a big surprise.
Firefly:
They'll be floating lighter than a cloud.
Megan:
They'll be floating - laughing right out
loud.
Firefly:
The sight of you will send spirits flying.
Megan:
One or two may burst out crying.
Firefly:
Why can't you believe? You're gonna be great.
Megan:
But, Firefly....
Firefly:
Trust me! Megan, you're a dream come true,
You're the answer to our every prayer.
Time will tell if I'll come through,
Firefly:
Megan:
Both:
No sign of trouble in sight,
My Little Pony, My Little Pony,
May all your days be bright,
May all your days be bright.
Mr. Moochick begins this songs as he is looking for the little piece of rainbow, and the others join in. This is the long version.
The Moochick:Somewhere there's a little piece of rainbow,
It's either underneath the rug or in the cupboard - ugh, a
bug!
Wait until you see this piece of rainbow,
It's ocean blue and sunrise pink - I left it by the sink I
think,
Perhaps we ought to try the other room,
Search every nook and cranny high and low.
You'd think that with a rainbow there's be some trace.
But not a gleam.
Not a glimmer.
Not a glow.
Where's I put that little piece of rainbow?
It might be in the flower pot, my goodness gracious, no
it's not,
I'm sorry but it seems, I'm sorry but it seems we're up
the creek.
You're not giving up, are you?
Might as well; looked every place; absolutely no place
else we could...
Silly me - come and see - it's in the garden,
It's buried here beneath the ground,
I knew that here I'd find it safe and sound,
A piece of rainbow always can be found.
Closing Theme from "Firefly's
Adventure"
Isn't it time we started home?
Whoever dreamed how far we'd roam?
Over the meadow and glen,
When will I see you again?
