My Little Ponies and Friends (U.S.) (Q-Z)
Year 10 (1991)

Year 10 was My Little Pony's last year to be released in the U. S.  It would also be a year of some of the wildest My Little Pony designs:  mermaids, ponies with zebra-type stripes, ponies covered in a flowers and lace design, talking ponies, and several sets with wild tropical colors.  The brilliant creations of Year 10 were bold to say the least; however, they lacked many of the accessory extras of years previous.  Many ponies came only with a single comb and very few came with accessories other than this.  There are exceptions to this rule however, like the Birthday Pony and Bridal Beauty.  Many of these sets weren't sold in the U. K.Also unlike all other years of the My Little Pony line, many Year 10 sets came in sets of 3.  Many came in sets of six until Year 8 then sets of four became popular.Soda Sippin' Ponies (ringlet curls, ice cream symbols, sweet smell) Click here to see Mint in Package Photographs of Soda Sippin' Ponies and for a complete accessory listing.Soda Sipping Ponies were special scented ponies, similar to the Sweetberry Ponies or Sundae Best Ponies, with bouncing spiral curls like the Rainbow Curl Ponies, except the soda pony's hair is shorter.  There were only two of these ponies made, both being very similar to one another.  They are similar colors, one pink and one lavender; they also have the same pose in common.  Note the differences in the symbols, which is probably the easiest way to tell them apart. Each pony comes with a special soda with a clear straw (with colored balls inside).  The straw fits into the pony's mouth and when her sides are squeezed, it appears that she inhales the row of  colored balls.  So it appears that she is sipping the soda.  You can see each pony's soda below her actual photograph.  The U. S. set of Soda Sippin' Ponies were not sold in the U. K. Chocolate Delight (earth pony) is pink with aqua, pink, yellow curls and has a chocolate ice cream soda with a purple glass surrounded by sprinkles.  She  came with a soda with a plastic straw.  She is in Sugarberry's pose and has yellow eyes.  She is chocolate scented.    Thanks to Joanne for use of this photograph.

Sweet Kisses Ponies (tall, slender bodies, lips that change in cold water) Click here to see Mint in Package Photographs of Sweet Kisses Ponies and for a complete accessory listing.Sweet Kisses Ponies are in the Sweetheart Sister mold, but they are lacking the earring that is common to most Sweetheart Sisters.  These ponies have tinsel in the mane, but none in the tail and have romance related symbols.  Each pony also has lipstick on the muzzle of the pony that changes color with the lipstick applicator (pictured right). The lipstick that each pony came with is pictured below, each having a different colored base and a pink top. It has a removable top, which had a red felt piece underneath to change the color of the ponies' lips.  Cold water makes the lips appear and warm water makes the lips disappear.  Note that sometimes (after time and wear) lips will change to the lipstick form and stay that way. The only other ponies to come with this accessory were the U. K. and European Sweet Kisses Ponies.  Ironically, these ponies share the same names, but are not alike.  The U. S. set of Sweet Kisses Ponies were not sold in the U. K.

Happy Hugs is pink with blue hair and blue tinsel; she has that change dark pink in cold water.  Her symbol is a purple tube of lipstick and lips. She came with blue-based lipstick.  She is in a strutting pose and has turqouise eyes.  Thanks to Melissa for use of this photograph, please visit her site at the Royal Fortress.

Sweet Talkin' PoniesClick here to see Mint in Package Photographs of Sweet Talkin' Ponies and for a complete accessory listing.Sweet Talkin' Ponies were special ponies that could speak when theirsweettalking.jpg (22063 bytes) sides were squeezed.  The mechanism is inside of the stomach and there is a speaker underneath the stomach (see thumbnail pictured right).Only two were produced, a purple and pink, larger than the average pony, with thick eyelashes (close up pictured below).  They share the same strutting pose.  Each also has bi-colored hair.  Though their pose is unique (due to the open mouths), they are very similar to one of the poses of Precious Pocket Ponies.  Pocket Ponies Bubblefish and Sweet Pocket also share the same pose with the Sweet Talkin' Ponies (except for the open mouth).  The difference of the open mouth is obvious when you think about it, talking ponies need to have their mouths open.  However, the pose is still a late pose, unique to Year 9 and Year 10.

Pink Sweet Talkin' Pony (earth pony) is pink with purple and pink mane and tail.  Her symbol is two blue ponies talking in a blue heart.  When her sides are squeezed she says, "I'm pretty", "I love you", and "Comb my hair."  She has blue eyes.  She has no formal name in the U. S., but does in the U.  K.

Purple Sweet Talkin' Pony (earth pony) is purple with pinkpurpletalksymbol.jpg (2798 bytes) and purple hair and has two blue ponies talking on a telephone.  When her sides are squeezed she says, "I'm pretty", "I love you", and "Comb my hair."  She has pink eyes.  She has no formal name in the U. S., but does in the U.  K.

They are not formally named in the U. S., but names in the U. K. are Chatterbox (pink) and Talks a Lot (purple).  All foreign ones translate to the same names.  Also, there is also Spanish speaking Sweet Talking Ponies (Palabritas) and German speaking Sweet Talking Ponies.  They are the same as the U. S. versions, but speak different languages. Sundazzle Ponies (slender tropical earth ponies with crimped, color change hair)Click here to see Mint in Package Photographs of Sundazzle Ponies and for a complete accessory listing.Sweet Kisses Ponies are in the Sweetheart Sister mold, but they are lacking the earring that is common to most Sweetheart Sisters.  Each Sundazzle Pony shares several characteristics:  bright body colors and hair colors, eye shadow above the eye, crimped hair, tropical symbols, and color change streaks in their hair.  The eye shadow was common with Tropical style ponies.  Also the color change hair was not a new invention, several ponies also had this feature, including the Sunshine Ponies and Twice As Fancy Sundance in Year 7.
Please note the example at the right.  Think of the hair in three layers: top white, middle purple, bottom white.  The top white layer is the layer that changes color.  The white hair changes to a dark pink color.  Sometimes the hair will turn pink and not turn back to white (with age and wear). You can also see a close up of the eye shadow on the example on the right. The U. S. set of Sundazzle Ponies were not sold in the U. K.

Teeny Pony Twins (have a small symbol on leg or face, and a one or two on hooves, other small differences) Click here to see Mint in Package Photographs of Teeny Tiny Twins and for a complete accessory listing.Teeny Tiny Twins came from the original Teeny Tiny Ponies, except in doubles.  There were three sets of Teeny Tiny Twins, which all have the basic Teeny Tiny features.
This is Teeny Tiny Pony Honey Pie (she is not a twin), but she is an example of how small the teeny tiny ponies are.
