::My Little Pony Guide to Hooves::
Identifying Origin by hoof markings

This is just a brief, concise guide to My Little Pony Feet and country.  My Little Ponies' hooves often tell a story of its collectible worth.  Different ponies from different countries have different hooves.  Any collector who collects international ponies needs to know where they are from and what they are worth.  Please remember that there are always exceptions to the rule, but this is the common understanding of MLP hooves.
The My Little Ponies' hooves are often referred to as feet.  You will hear terms such as Flat Foot and Concave Foot, sooner or later.

Point of Note: The copyright date on the hoof is when that pony's pose was made.  For example all ponies in the Collector's Pose are dated 1982, even though some were sold in stores in 1983, 1984, etc.

U. S. Ponies' Hooves:

Within this category are several types of hooves and markings, still they are considered the "norm" with hooves for most collectors.  Please note:  Some International Ponies also are marked with Hong Kong or China.  For more about those ponies, click here.

Flat Foot Collector Ponies (Hong Kong)
Six ponies that came out in1982 had flat hooves; they are called Collector Ponies.  There is also a version of Flat Foot Peachy.  These were the only U. S. ponies to carry this characteristic.  All Flat Foot Ponies are Made in Hong Kong.

Concave Feet (Hong Kong, China, and Thailand)
These pony hooves account for the rest of the ponies produced in the United States.  However, these feet may slightly vary from pony to pony.  Certainly, the copyright dates will vary.  Also, what is written on the hooves will vary, but it has several of the same characteristics.  All hooves will either be made in Hong Kong or China.  These feet contain the information of where they were made, the company of Hasbro, copyright date, and patent pending.

Some have markings on all four hooves or sometimes only on two hooves.

The U. S. versions might have the following countries (were they were manufactured) stamped onto the hooves:

  • Hong Kong  Some HK sets:  Collector Ponies, All Year 2 and Year 3 Ponies, Peek a boo Baby Ponies, TAF Fifi, Twice as Fancy, Big Brother, Twinkle Eye Ponies, Sundae Best, Unicorns and Pegasus, Earth Ponies, Newborn Twins, Baby Sparkle Ponies, Sparkle Ponies, Loving Families, Sweetberry Ponies, First Tooth Baby Ponies, Glittery SHS,  Megan, Baby Tiddlywinks, Party Gift Pack Ponies,

  • Thailand Baby Fancy Pants Ponies (Fancy Pants variants have China on hoof)

International Pony Hooves:

Blank My Little Pony Hooves:  All four hooves have absolutely no markings.   Blank feet could belong to several different types of International ponies. For more information see the "No Country" hoof section.

Argentinean My Little Pony Hooves: These are marked in three ways.  Most of the adults are copyrighted in 1982 and have three blank hooves (note that some adults do have other copyright dates and markings).  Babies are the most common version to have the second hoof type:  The copyright date on one hoof and "Made in Argentina on the other hoof." Some have no markings at all.

Brazilian My Little Pony Hooves:

  • Most Brazilian Ponies Hooves  --have feet fashioned after the picture below, though not all.  Left hoof Copyright date and Hasbro, and the right hoof has Estrela, Made in Brazil.
  • Circus Brazilian Ponies Hooves  --these slightly differ from their counterparts. Shown Right.

Italian My Little Pony Feet--Left hoof has the copyright date and Hasbro and the right hoof has ITALY written on it.  The back hooves have no writing.

Hong Kong and China Hooves--These account for many of the common UK and European Ponies (and various other parts of the world) that you think of like Hopscotch and Applejack in the Collector's pose.  Their hooves are like U. S. hooves in the respect that each will have HK or China stamped on the hoof.

Macau My Little Pony Hooves--Left hoof has the copyright date and Hasbro and the right hoof has MACAU written on it.  The back hooves have no writing.

Mexican My Little Pony Hooves--Made only in Mexico, by Lili Leby. Also they may have four blank hooves as well.

"No Country" on any hoof--Some countries such as Greece have ponies with unmarked hooves.   I am sure that there are several other countries like these also.  The picture below has markings on one hoof; there are ponies out there that have no markings on the hooves, at all. Usually if there is a country with no markings on the hooves, the same country has several marked ponies as well.

Countries that fall into this category:

  • Greece (can also have no marking or the delta mark)
  • Argentina (can also have Made in Argentina mark, see Argentinean Hooves, above)
  • "No Country" Ponies (origin of these ponies are still undiscovered)
  • Spanish (can also have Spain on hoof)
  • Mexican (can also have Lili Leby on hoof).
  • Brazilian (can also have logo on hoof).
